Website terms of use

The terms this site is provided on, and the difference between what a web page says and what a signed document says. The second one always wins.

These terms, and agreeing to them

This website is provided by Bowland Legal Portfolio, whose registered name, company number and registered office are in the footer of every page. By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.

We may change these terms, and the version on this page is the one that applies to your use of the site today. The date at the top says when it was last looked at.

What this site is

General information about who we are and what we do, published so that a law firm or an investor can decide whether a conversation is worth having. That is the whole of its purpose.

Nothing on this site is an offer to enter into any arrangement, an invitation to do so, or advice of any kind — not investment advice, not legal advice, not tax advice. Nothing here takes account of your circumstances, because we do not know them. If you are deciding whether something is right for you, take your own advice from somebody who is able to give it.

Where this site states a figure

This site states certain standard terms, such as the return we lend on, the period a facility is expected to run for and the smallest investment we are able to take. They are published so that a reader is not left guessing, and they describe our usual arrangements rather than yours.

The terms of any actual arrangement with us are the ones in the documents provided to you and agreed with you. Where anything on this site differs from those documents, the documents are what count, and they are what you should read before deciding anything.

Some of what is described here is still being arranged, and where that is so the page says it in as many words. A sentence that tells you something is not yet settled is doing its job, and it should be read as exactly that rather than as a description of what you would get today.

Accuracy, and what we cannot promise

We take care over what we publish and we keep it current. We cannot promise that every page is free of error or that everything on it is complete or up to date at the moment you read it, and we do not accept responsibility for a decision taken on the strength of a page rather than on the strength of documents and advice.

Nothing in this section limits our responsibility for anything the law does not allow us to limit it for, including fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Using the site

You may read this site, and print or save a page for your own reference. What we ask you not to do is anything that interferes with it or with anybody else's use of it.

  • Do not try to reach any part of the site, or any system or data behind it, that you have not been given access to.
  • Do not introduce anything harmful, attempt to disrupt the site, or put a load on it designed to affect its availability.
  • Do not collect material from the site by automated means for republication, and do not present any part of it as your own or as somebody else's.
  • Do not use the contact form for anything other than contacting us about our business.

What belongs to us

The text, design, mark, artwork and arrangement of this site belong to us or are used by us with the agreement of whoever owns them, and they are protected by law. Reading the site does not transfer any of that to you.

You may quote a short passage with an acknowledgement of where it came from. You may not reproduce a substantial part of the site, or use our name or mark in a way that suggests a connection with us or an endorsement by us, without asking us first.

Availability

We would like this site to be available whenever you want it, and we cannot promise that it always will be. We may suspend, withdraw or change any part of it, or the whole of it, without telling you in advance, and we do not accept responsibility if it is unavailable at a particular moment.

Accounts and the portal

This site is public. The portal a client or a law firm signs into is a different thing, and using it is governed by the terms given to you when your account is opened together with the documents for your arrangement, rather than by this page.

If you hold an account, the credentials for it are yours to look after, and you should tell us straight away if you think somebody else has them.

Personal information

What we do with personal information is set out in our privacy notice, and how this site uses cookies is set out in our cookie notice. Both are linked from the footer of every page.

Which law applies

These terms and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of this site are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales are the ones that deal with them.

Nothing here affects any right you have that the law gives you and does not allow to be taken away.

Reaching us

Anything about these terms, about the site, or about anything on it comes to us through the contact page or the address in the footer, and is answered by a person here.
