For those placing capital
Your capital. A defined legal portfolio. Clear visibility throughout.
We lend against carefully selected portfolios of legal cases that law firms are already running. You get a portal showing how the funded portfolio is progressing, from the day capital is deployed through to the cases resolving, and the figures you are shown are the figures we work from.
- A defined portfolio, and you can see into it
- You lend to us directly
- Every term in writing before anything is agreed
Every term is agreed with you
What we publish are our standard terms. Yours are agreed on your own documents, which may differ, and you would have them in writing well before anything was committed. We would take you through all of it first.
What you are entering into
-
A portfolio loan facility with us
You are lending to us, on terms documented with you. Your capital funds a defined portfolio of legal cases, and the documents set out what we owe you and when. It is secured, which is not the same thing as being safe.
-
Your rate, agreed with you
It is set out in your documents and only changes if you agree to change it. The rate itself does not rise if the portfolio does well, and it does not fall if it does badly.
-
Paid on the dates in your own schedule
Every facility carries a schedule worked out when it is agreed and written down then, so improving anything later cannot alter what you were promised.
-
A share of what the cases recover, where there is one
Some facilities carry a share of what the cases go on to recover, on top of the rate. It works differently from the rate: it follows the cases rather than a schedule, and it arrives as and when they resolve, which can be after your term has ended. Your documents say whether yours carries one.
-
Capital repayable at the end of the term
Subject to our ability to repay, which is the risk being taken and one we go through with you properly before anything is agreed. What happens at the end is then something we agree with you rather than something that happens on its own.
See where your capital is working
Rather than a statement every so often, you can follow how the funded portfolio is getting on: where the capital has gone, and how the work behind it is progressing. It is detailed about the portfolio and careful with the people in it.
-
There is a portal, and your account is on it
You sign in and your position is there: what you have lent us, what you are owed and what has already been paid. It is kept current as things happen rather than gathered up for you afterwards.
-
The portfolio behind your balance
How many cases the portfolio is carrying, what has resolved and how much capital has been deployed, drawn from the same information we monitor the facility with rather than prepared separately for you.
-
A case counted twice is a case caught
A claim can only come in against a portfolio once, and a second attempt to bring the same one is stopped rather than funded twice. Where a case is already with us under a different reference it waits for somebody here to look at it, because two claims that share a client and a date are a question rather than an error.
-
Capital freed is capital put back to work
When a case resolves, or has to come out of the portfolio, the capital behind it is released and can go behind another case that meets the same criteria. The record shows which case took which one's place, so the portfolio you were shown and the portfolio you have can always be reconciled.
-
Why firms bring us the work
A firm's clients stay their clients and how they run a case stays theirs. That is the arrangement good firms want, and it is why there is a portfolio here worth looking at.
What to expect from us
Four things that hold true every time.
-
Payments come from us, to you
Every payment is made from our own account to the one you have given us, on the dates in your schedule. Money moves bank to bank, and what the platform holds is the record of it: what is owed, what has been paid and when.
-
We ring you before anything changes
If you ever want to change where we pay you, we will ring you on a number we already have and talk it through. We let every address you have used with us know as well, and nothing moves until that is done.
-
Your figures are our figures
What you are shown and what we work from are the same figures, and nothing is restated on its way from our accounts to your statement.
-
A statement stays as it was sent
Anything that comes later is added beside it and dated, so the record only ever grows and you can always find what you were shown at the time.
How an account is opened
Short, and every step recorded. You can stop at any of them.
-
You tell us about yourself
A short set of questions about your circumstances and your experience, so we know who we are dealing with and the record says so. What you agree to is frozen at the wording you actually read.
-
We check who you are
We satisfy ourselves who you are, the way any lender has to, and we tell you exactly what we need before you send anything. A copy of what you send is kept on your file.
-
You read the documents and sign
The terms of the facility, in writing, with time to read them and somebody to ask.
-
You tell us where to pay you
You confirm the details rather than typing them out again, and if you ever change them we will ring you first.
-
We open the account
Somebody here reviews everything before anything opens, and you can see where it has got to throughout.
Taking it further
A first conversation commits you to nothing, and there is nothing you cannot ask before anything is agreed.
