Cookie notice

Two cookies, both of them needed for the site to work, and nothing at all that follows you anywhere. This page names them and says what each one does.

Last reviewed 17 September 2026.

Why there is no banner asking you to agree

Because there is nothing here to agree to. A site has to ask before it sets anything that is not needed to provide the thing you came for, and this site sets nothing of that kind. The two cookies below are what make the pages work and the contact form send; without them, the form cannot safely be submitted at all.

A banner over cookies you cannot decline is a control that does nothing, and asking a question whose answer changes nothing is a worse way to treat a reader than not asking.

What this site sets

Two cookies, both set by this site itself, and no cookie set by anybody else.

  • A session cookie, which lets the site recognise a series of requests from your browser as one visit. It holds a reference rather than anything about you, and it is discarded when you close your browser or after a stretch of inactivity.
  • A cookie holding a token that proves a form submitted to us came from the page it claims to have come from. It is what stops somebody else's website submitting our contact form on your behalf, and it is the reason the form works at all.

If you hold an account with us, signing in sets further cookies of the same kind for the same reason. They keep you signed in and keep your session yours, and none of them is used to advertise to you or to build a picture of what you look at.

What this site does not set

No analytics, and that is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight: we would rather not know which pages you read than collect it. No advertising or marketing cookies. No cookies from a social network, a video platform or a font service. Nothing following you from here to another website, and nothing building a profile of you anywhere.

Turning them off, and what stops working

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, and the instructions live in your browser's own settings and help. Nothing we do prevents that.

You can read every page of this site with cookies blocked. What you cannot do is send us a message through the contact page, because the check that keeps the form safe has nowhere to keep its token. If that happens, write to the address in the footer instead and it reaches the same people.

If this ever changes

If we add anything that is not strictly necessary — an analytics tool, an embedded video, anything set by a third party — we will ask you before it is set, and this page will say what it is and what it does. The absence of a banner today is a statement about what we collect, and it would be dishonest to leave it standing if that stopped being true.
