The headline terms
What a facility with us looks like
The standard terms we lend on. Yours are agreed with you and set out in your own documents, and you would have them in writing well before anything was committed.
-
11% fixed annual return
Fixed for the whole of your term, and it does not move with how the cases go. Your rate is set out in your documents and only changes if you agree to change it.
-
Target investment period of 24 months
How long a facility is expected to run. At the end your capital sits until a withdrawal or a further term is agreed with you, rather than coming back on its own.
-
Minimum investment of £10,000
The smallest amount we can take. A facility in euros or dollars carries its own figure, and you are told which one applies to you while you are filling the form in.
-
Access to portfolio reporting
A portal showing where your capital has gone and how the cases behind it are getting on, drawn from the same information we monitor the facility with rather than prepared separately for you.
-
Capital protection under consideration
Bowland is exploring capital-protection arrangements providing cover of up to 75% of deployed capital. The insurer, availability and final terms remain to be confirmed.
-
If you are a law firm
Send us the claims you are already running, keep them moving in one place, and see where every one of them has got to.
How we work with firms -
If you are placing capital
A small number of investors lend to us against defined portfolios of legal cases, and a portal shows how the funded portfolio is progressing. Terms are agreed facility by facility and set out in the documents.
What working with us involves
End to end
How a claim becomes a position
Three things happen, in this order, and each of them leaves a record that outlives whoever was in the room.
-
A firm sends us a claim
They are already running it. We satisfy ourselves who they are before anything else, and from that point the claim has our attention as well as theirs.
-
You hear back either way
Some we fund and some we do not, and you hear which from us rather than waiting to find out. Where each of a firm's claims stands with us is visible from the moment it changes.
-
The portfolio pays out
An investor lends against a defined portfolio rather than to any single claim, and is paid on the dates agreed when the facility was put in place.
Who you are dealing with
-
We are the funder
We make the funding decision ourselves, so when you talk to us about a claim you are talking to the people who will make it.
-
The firm keeps conduct of the case
They know the file and the strategy is theirs. What we bring is the money, and somebody on our side asking where every claim has got to.
-
We work with a small number of firms and investors
Knowing a few of each properly is worth more to us than reach. Everything here is arranged one relationship at a time.
Where we focus
The claims we fund
Work that runs to a pattern we know and a timetable we can back. If your firm handles anything close to these, it is worth a conversation.
-
Housing disrepair
Claims against landlords, whether council, housing association or private, where a property has not been kept in the condition it should have been.
-
Car finance
Agreements where the commission arrangement was not disclosed to the borrower in the way it should have been.
-
Irresponsible lending
Payday loans, credit cards, overdrafts and guarantor agreements advanced to people who could not afford to repay them.
-
Noise induced hearing loss
Industrial and armed forces claims alike, where exposure at work has caused lasting damage to somebody's hearing.
-
Church abuse
Claims brought by people abused in the care of a church or religious organisation, usually long after it happened.
Start a conversation
Talk to the people who make the decision
Whichever side you are on, it begins with a conversation and commits you to nothing. Tell us who you are and we will come back to you.
A person here reads every approach and replies to it. If we are not the right fit for each other we will say so early, and we will try to be useful about why.
